What is a Widget?

Widgets are small applications that add interactivity for the viewer in a website. Some examples are:

• Tag Clouds
• Category listings
• Latest Blog Posts
• Latest Twitter Feed

Normally a widget is placed in a sidebar, but you can use them anywhere. It’s nice to have custom sidebars and widgets for different pages.  For example : on the contact page, have related links in the sidebar, and a twitter feed, or facebook feed.
